1. What if I’ve never had a tattoo before?

FAQs

2. Will the procedure hurt?

You’re in good company. Many of our clients are new to tattooing. Everything here is grounded in communication, consent, and care. I’ll walk with you through each step, ensuring you feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout.

Most clients report little to no discomfort during the tattooing process, particularly in reconstructed breasts, where sensation is often diminished. If tenderness arises, a gentle topical anesthetic can be used to ensure your comfort. Your ease is always centered here.

3. Can I receive areola tattooing if I’m still undergoing treatment?

In some cases, yes—but it depends on your body’s readiness. Please consult with your medical team to determine the best timing for your tattooing. We will always honor your process and prioritize your health above all else.

4. How is the color and size of the areola chosen?

Together, we’ll co-create your vision—selecting a tone, shape, and size that feel aligned and natural to you. Once everything feels just right, I’ll bring it to life using soft, dimensional shading.

5. Will the needle puncture my implant?

Not at all. The tattooing process gently reaches only the second layer of your skin—the dermis. Your implant remains completely safe and untouched throughout.

6. What does aftercare involve?

After your session, your tattoo will be protected with a light, breathable dressing. You’ll receive clear written and verbal aftercare instructions to support your healing process. This is a tender chapter—rest, nourish yourself, and allow your body time to restore.

7. Will I need another appointment?

Yes, your follow-up visit is an integral part of your healing journey. We’ll meet again 4 to 6 weeks after your first session to revisit the area, adjust color if needed, and refine the details. This second visit isn’t just a “touch-up”—it’s a continuation of care.

8. Can I return to normal activities afterward?

You’ll be able to return to most daily activities with ease. We simply ask that you avoid vigorous exercise for 24 hours, and keep the area away from pools, baths, or hot tubs for about a week. Give your skin this time to settle—it’s a small pause for a beautiful return.

9. How long will the tattoo last?

While some fading can occur in the first few weeks as your skin heals, your tattoo is designed to last for years—and sometimes for life. With proper aftercare and minimal sun exposure, many clients enjoy long-lasting, vibrant results. A soft refresh is available in the future if desired.

10. Do I need to remove hair before the appointment?

Hair removal is optional. If it feels more comfortable, you may shave or pluck 48+ hours before your session. But hair will not interfere with the process, and you're always welcome just as you are.

11. What can be done for surgical or visible scars?

If you have visible scars from surgery or past experiences, we can explore options like scar camouflage or refinement. We’ll discuss this during your consultation and design a personalized plan that supports both healing and aesthetics.

12. What if my reconstruction is uneven or I’ve had fat grafting?

Tattooing can help bring a sense of balance and softness to asymmetrical or irregular areas. Every body is unique, and we’ll adapt the design to meet your anatomy with precision and care.

13. Can you create a new areola if I haven’t had reconstruction?

Yes. For those who did not choose or were unable to have reconstruction, a natural-looking areola can still be created with soft, realistic shading. This is your journey, and all choices are honored here.

14. Is this covered by insurance?

Some insurance plans cover areola tattooing following breast reconstruction. I’ll provide a receipt and necessary coding to help you submit for reimbursement. If you have questions about this, I’m happy to support you in navigating the process.
